Keep warm.

Save money this winter with Mitchell Glass

Reports are saying we are suffering our worst winter since 1963. Keeping warm is priority although the cost of heating can be expensive. Energy preservation is the best way to keep warm while actually reducing costs.

Please find some advice below for keeping warm this winter. Even the little things can make a difference!
For more information you can call 0800 220 415 and speak to one of our sales representatives Ian Hyslop, Graeme Currie or Kenny Scott.

1. Keeping your windows and doors locked ensures they are tightly shut which will minimise cold air penetration. You may usually sleep with your window open at night so you get fresh air into your home. If you have them, open your window trickle vents or invest in an air purifier. Plants also work really well at keeping your air pure.

2. Older windows and doors let air in and out, especially through the cracks. By plugging the cracks, your house won't lose heat and you won't have bone-chilling draughts. Stick towels under doors and in windows where air might be coming through.

3. If you live in an older home, consider having it insulated. It might already have insulation but having it re insulated will keep the heat inside your home and save you money on your heating bill. It will also keep your house cooler in the summer. Government grants are currently available. See your heating supplier for more information.

4. Upgrading your boiler to a more energy efficient one will also save you money in the long term. It will also be more reliable allowing piece of mind. See your energy company for more information.

5. Turning your thermostat down by a few degrees could save up to 10% on your heating bills. Wear warmer clothes and you won't notice the difference.

6. Upgrading your boiler to a more energy efficient one will also save you money in the long term. It will also be more reliable allowing piece of mind. See your energy company for more information.

7. Make sure all your radiators are working efficiently by bleeding them regularly and consider placing heat reflectors behind them when they are placed on external walls.

8. Open your oven when you are finished cooking so the heat will be released into the air. Also if your oven has a self cleaning program, clean it when it's cold instead of doing it during the summer when the heat is just released out of the windows.

9. If you have a ceiling fan, turn it on, especially if you have high ceilings. Heat rises so if you turn the fan it will help circulate the warmer air.

10. Be conservative. Things like taking your groceries inside with one or two trips can make a difference and closing internal doors.

11. Replace old windows with new energy efficient ones. They don't have to be super expensive and they can make a big difference. We can offer a wide range of products to suit your home and we also offer an easy payment plan to help spread the costs.
