As 2009 seems set to be filled with doom and gloom it is good to know that, on the local business horizon at least, there is a glimmer of hope. Mitchell Glass, based in Galashiels, has just welcomed two new employees into the company to deal with the steadily increasing workload. The two new starts are Danielle Halifax, 18 years old, from Selkirk and Ron Waddell, 60 years old, from Galashiels
Having left school, Danielle decided she didn’t want to leave the Borders but found she was only able to get part time work locally. She was delighted to be offered the position of Admin Assistant at Mitchells, a job which sees her dealing with all aspects of office and customer service work. Ron, who was recently made redundant by Crawford the Builders, was also delighted to be offered the position of Architectural Technician, as such skilled jobs can be few and far between locally, especially in this economic climate.
Having come through 12 recessions in their 134 year history it is no surprise that this Borders company have plans to overcome the 13th. They are about to run a special training programme for all members of staff, from those in the office to the fitters, which will see them learning new skills, meaning they are more adaptable and valuable employees. This commitment to their staff ensures the commitment to customers is upheld and that in 2009 an investment in their homes with a Mitchells Glass product is a safe investment in their future.
