Overview
A 1960s bungalow located in Edinburgh underwent a complete transformation with the addition of a contemporary extension and remodelling. The project featured a 6.6m wide set of SUNFLEX UK SVG30 slimline aluminium sliding doors, which were supplied and installed by Mitchell Glass, a long-established and highly regarded distributor of SUNFLEX UK products based in Galashiels.

The Challenge
The homeowner wanted to replace a previous lean-to addition with a single-storey extension that would not only increase the usable living space but also transform the relationship between the house and the garden. They wanted to create a seamless connection between the inside and the outside, with a focus on natural light and an open feel when the doors were open or closed.
The Solution

The 6-panel set of SVG30 slimline aluminium sliding doors were chosen for their incredibly slim 30mm sightlines, which perfectly suited the property.
The doors were configured with two panels sliding to each side from the centre behind a fixed frame, creating a central opening over 4 metres wide. The SVG30 triple track provides a near-flush transition between the inside and outside spaces. Beautiful slate tiles were chosen for both the house and patio, providing an almost seamless link between the interior and exterior.
The colour of the doors was selected to closely match the slate floor and zinc cladding of the roof while also contrasting perfectly with the timber cladding featured on the returns.
The Result
The collaboration between Mitchell Glass, SUNFLEX UK, :thatstudio architects, and GRS Property Services resulted in a stunning and contemporary extension to the Edinburgh home. The large panes of glass in the SVG30 slimline aluminium sliding doors bring natural light into the completely transformed ground floor, while also providing a seamless connection between the house and the garden when the doors are opened.
