A Window For Every Home In Scotland

When window buyers walk into our Galashiels showroom they are always amazed by the amount of choice they have.
Our window range has grown and grown over the years, to the point where we now have a vast selection of window styles available.

The hardest part is trying to decide which is best. It helps to have an understanding of what is on offer, so let us take you through some of the window options we have.

Aluminium Windows

Aluminium is incredibly tough and has the durability needed to resist weathering over a 20-30 year period. Despite the strength of the material, aluminium is very easy to mould. This makes it perfect for window manufacture as sleek sightlines can be created to enable large panes of glass to be inserted into the frame. Outstanding energy efficiency is also a trademark of aluminium-built home improvements.

Timber Windows

Traditional timber windows have a tendency to lose their appearance as they age, but no such issues with our timber windows. They are a modernised and more reliable version of original timber windows, sharing many of the same characteristics in terms of styling and hardware, only they don’t rot, warp, swell or fade. No upkeep is necessary to keep our timber windows looking like a true classic.

UPVC Windows

UPVC windows are more affordable than most window types and can be cleaned in just a few seconds with a wet cloth. They’re also robust for those who are concerned about home security. Breaking through them is very difficult, particularly as they also include a multi-point locking mechanism that when fastened, stays fastened. UPVC is a fantastic insulator too and will keep energy costs down.

Heritage Windows

You can’t just fit any window replacement in listed buildings and at homes within conservation areas. To be accepted by planners they must retain the original character and appearance of the house, something that Heritage windows do. Inspired by traditional Flush Sash Timber Windows, they have an identical look to wooden windows, inside as well as outside, featuring window furniture reminiscent of the period.

Secondary Windows

Speaking of listed buildings and conservation areas, secondary windows are an effective method of improving thermal insulation by adding an extra layer of glass to existing windows without contravening Planning or Conservation area rules. You will barely notice that they have been installed, but you will notice the difference they make in terms of how much warmer your home feels and how little external noise gets in.

The above five examples are just a small sample of the impressive window range at Mitchell Glass. You can see and hear about more possibilities by paying us a visit.
