Great Looking Timber Windows From Mitchell Glass

There are many technological developments that occur in the world that have a dramatic effect over the way established processes are conducted. Never has this been truer than in the manufacture of windows which has been radically changed over the last few decades. These changes have come from the introduction of UPVC in the manufacturing process and increasingly aluminium is being used to fabricate windows too. Modern glass has also caused a great deal of change in the industry as energy efficient coatings and technologies have combined to create windows that can actively create energy in the home.

At Mitchell Glass we have embraced all of these incredible changes in technology but we also have a great respect for the old ways and techniques of manufacturing windows. The old ways that we are referring to are of course the installation of timber windows. Windows were made purely from wood and glass for many hundreds of years and this process has only recently changed because of the cheap, mass manufacturing capabilities of UPVC. However, timber windows are still a very important part of window replacement and installations; many protected and listed buildings must use timber in order to remain authentic.

The beauty of modern timber windows is that they can be made to be as long lasting and as energy efficient as UPVC or aluminium windows. This is because modern timber frames can support double glazing glass units which are highly energy efficient, especially compared to old single glazed units. Although wooden windows require slightly more maintenance (stripping and painting) they are aesthetically superior to their rivals and can be sure to improve the look of any home; inside and out!
