Mitchell Glass Rewarded For Investing In Youth

Young people often get something of a bad press and sometimes find it difficult to make a breakthrough into the world of work; however Mitchell Glass has always been the type of firm to give talented young individuals the opportunity to realise their potential.

So much so that we’ve recently become the first company in the Scottish Borders to achieve the prestigious Investors in Young People Accreditation, the only people management standard that focuses on an employer’s recruitment and retention of young people. We currently employ four young people and feel that their capabilities will take us into the next chapter in the history of Mitchell Glass. This includes one apprentice joiner who is nearing the end of his apprenticeship and another who will be starting at Borders College in September, one of Scotland’s most successful colleges. In the office, another young person is soon to commence his Modern Apprenticeship in Business and Administration. We believe that this represents our true commitment to the training and development of young people. Whilst Scotland has the 9th lowest youth unemployment rate in Europe, it still ranks pretty poorly in comparison to many other countries. We’re proud to be able to say that we do everything we can to nurture and develop young individuals to help both them and the business grow and inject fresh ideas into the company. Such high-profile recognition highlights this.
