Mitchell Glass Salute The Queen On An Historic Day

There was much excitement yesterday as Mitchell Glass received a royal wave from the Queen on the day that Her Majesty celebrated becoming our longest ever reigning UK Monarch. It came as a steam train carrying Queen Elizabeth II thundered past our Galashiels showroom to mark the official opening of the new £294million Scottish Borders railway spanning from Edinburgh to Tweedbank.

Several members of the team, and many of our customers, dashed outside the site to greet her.  The world’s media were also out in force as she created history and overtook Queen Victoria’s previous reign of 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes. The Queen and Prince Phillip were accompanied on the journey across the longest new domestic railway built in Britain for more than a century by Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. We have it on very good authority that they will have enjoyed some wonderful scenery along the route as our owners Peter and Susan Roden were amongst the fare paying passengers on Sunday’s first train. Peter and Susan even managed to capture a shot of our display centre from the train.  Now that we have the royal seal of approval (well sort of) we hope that many of those venturing from Edinburgh will disembark the train to come and view our extensive range of home improvements.
