The Borders Railway Draws In The Visitors

It was revealed a couple of days ago that 700,000 people travelled on the Borders Railway during its first six months of operation, 22% more than was originally forecast.
The opening of the Scottish Borders railway in September last year has also paid dividends for Mitchell Glass.

We know of at least two customers who are using the service to commute to our Galashiels showroom, open weekdays and Saturday mornings until noon, from Edinburgh in less than an hour.

We are within walking distance of Galashiels Railway Station and they’ve made the journey to view our wide range of products in Aluminium, Timber and PVC and utilise the expertise of our customer advisors.

Speaking of our customer advisors, you will be pleased to hear that we have added an appointment facility to our website.

Clicking on the small appointment tab on the right hand side of the page or via the following book an appointment enables customers to organise their own appointment date and time to discuss with an advisor whichever product they’re most interested in.

Finally, the photo displayed is from last month when we had a fleeting visitor steam past the showroom as the world-famous Flying Scotsman train travelled down from Edinburgh to Tweedbank.

To much disappointment, the original journey was cancelled late on Friday afternoon when it was discovered safety checks had not been by Network Rail. However, after pressure from the Scottish Borders Council Leader David Parker and the Scottish Transport Minister Derek Mackay, Scotrail worked through the night to carry out the necessary checks.

Over three thousand people were in Tweedbank to see the famous engine and participate in the local community events put on in the area. In Galashiels there were bouncy castles, face painting, bands and choirs to enjoy.
