Multi-functional spaces
People will be looking to work their homes even harder than they have done since the pandemic struck.
Most people needed a home office in 2021, one of last year’s biggest trends, and in 2022, living spaces will need to demonstrate extra versatility, with rooms tripling-up for different purposes.
So, rather than leave a guest room solely as a space for guests to sleep in, put a Peloton bike in there too and a foldaway desk, enabling you to both workout and work from home. Anyone with a conservatory will also use it as a conference space in the daytime, but more of an entertainment space at night.
Grandmillennial style
We’ll soon reach the second anniversary of the pandemic hitting the UK, one of the toughest periods we’ve all faced. Thank goodness we’ve had our homes for comfort.
Do you recall the cosiness of your Grandparent’s house? You felt so safe there. Millennials are looking to recreate that same cosy atmosphere in their houses by implementing the Grandmillennial style.
All it takes is the addition of floral prints, chintz, coloured glassware etc. matched with a series of modern elements. Don’t go overboard though and leave the room feeling too cluttered.
You’ll be left with a very individual and joyous atmosphere.
Goodbye to white
Rather than shy away from colour, it looks as though people will be experimenting with it far more.
One colour that many will turn to is Pantone’s 2022 Colour of the Year, “Very Peri”, a periwinkle blue with rich violet undertones, certain to make a bold statement in any living area. White, in comparison, is far more muted, and dare we say it, cold.
There will also be continued appreciation for earthy tones and colours, the type of colours seen in nature, including different shades of brown, such as chocolate brown and terracotta.
