Your Guide To UPVC Doors And Composite Doors

The entrance to your home comes more under the microscope in summer because of the extra hours of daylight we receive at this time of the year.

White Leaded UPVC Windows & Composite Door

How does your front door look when the sun is shining on it? If it has a tired appearance, you really need to go out and replace it so that you don’t risk the condition of the door bringing the entire styling of your home down.

When shopping for a replacement door, UPVC doors and composite doors are the most common forms of entrance door you will come across (we do supply timber doors at Mitchell Glass too!).

Is one better than the other? It’s impossible to say as they’re very different, as we’ll now outline to you…

Style

If you don’t know already, UPVC stands for Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride. Due to the presence of plastic in the material, there is a noticeable sheen on the door frame which becomes more prominent when the sun hits it. White is undisputedly the most typical finish found on UPVC doors, but colour choices for these door solutions have sharply risen in recent times.

When you see a composite door in person for the first time, you could easily believe that is a completely wooden door, but it isn’t. There is some timber used to manufacture a composite door, along with a string of other materials, and it helps give it a woodgrain effect on the Glass Reinforced Plastic skin, the type of woodgrain only normally seen on composite doors.

Price

In terms of cost, composite doors are more expensive than UPVC doors, but you shouldn’t solely base your choice on price.

They will both provide superb insulation and help to keep draughts out, reducing your reliance on your heating and resulting in significant cost savings. Over the lifespan of a UPVC door and composite door, you can expect to save a large sum of money, easily covering the initial cost.

Don’t seeing buying either door as an expense, more an investment in quality for the foreseeable future.

Security

The older your door, the less protected your home will be.

Installing a brand new UPVC or composite door will immediately bolster home security as they contain a multi-point locking mechanism, resilient door frame and robust hinges and handles.

Forcing them open when they’re locked is practically impossible (as proven in testing), and that’s why you will feel so much more confident about leaving your home empty when you lock your door behind you.
